SUBMENTAL LIPOPLASTY - DOUBLE CHIN SURGERY

Submental lipoplasty is a procedure indicated to treat a submental fat pad or double chin. In some patients a congenital fat pad exists between the chin and the upper part of the neck and removal of this fat pad will provide a more esthetic or cosmetically pleasing anterior neckline.

In this procedure a small horizontal skin incision is performed in a natural skin crease just below the chin. Using a series of elevators and endoscopes the surgeon is able to isolate and remove the fat pad using suction assisted soft tissue lipoplasty with minimal trauma to adjacent tissues or bleeding.

Sutures are usually removed within five to seven days. Patients are expected to wear a pressure or suspension dressing for the first five to seven days and most patients are able to resume normal activities within five to seven days. This procedure is frequently advocated in conjunction with a traditional
or endoscopic facelift.
